Command cannot be performed because a dialog box is open

After upgrading from Office 97 to Office 2003 I receive an error "Command
cannot be performed because a dialog box is open" the first time I open a
document by double clicking on it through explorer on a Win2k workstation
(only happens the first time). Windows XP workstations do not produce this
error message.
In the background I can see where Word is asking for the username/Initials.
I assume this is because the profile information has not yet been created. Is
there a workaround or fix for this on Win2k?

P.S. I do use Norton AV

The username and profile should only prompt the first time you launch
Word. If it keeps appearing then that indicates the user doesn't have
sufficient permissions to modify the Registry and create the
appropriate Reg entries for the user data.

Hi Beth,
The username prompt and error message does only display once, but I would
like to avoid the message if possible to prevent calls from users
