Thanks Diaya:
The problem does seem to resolve after a relaunch. But it does always seem
to come back INTERMITTENTLY.

I think this was also pre tiger.

No hardware issues beyond the norm.

Never seen this.

Does it come back if you quit and relaunch?

Is it a new issue under Tiger, or just since the 10.4.3 update?

Vague memory suggests that you seem to have a lot of keyboard difficulties.
Is it possible something is wonky with the hardware?

Those are the ones Daiya was asking about (the "norm"). Most of us have no
hardware issues at all. Still if relaunching (rather than, say, shaking your
keyboard vigorously, or rebooting) is what gets it working again, I'd
suspect instead interference from keyboard or macro utilities, or other
"system" control utilities, if you use any of those. Do you?

Thanks Paul!

Not sure what keyboard, macro, or system utilities are.

I mean I use cocktail once a month; just not sure about what that means.

Thanks John, never seen that compatibility report, but I will do that test
next time and keep you posted

Paul's trying to find out whether your keyboard is "otherwise reliable". In
other words: is the problem that Word is not responding to Command N, or is
the problem that Word is not GETTING the Command N?

If it's not "getting" the Command N, could it be that the Keyboard is not
sending it, or that the command is being directed somewhere else instead.
Various things will intercept commands -- dialog boxes, and other
applications.

For example: Command N routinely fails if the Compatibility Report dialog is
open and you have clicked in it. But if the Compatibility Report dialog is
open but you have clicked in the Document, Command N will work.

Here's a test: When Command + N fails, can you type the letter N in your
document? If you can, it's not the keyboard that's causing the problem.

Hope this helps
Thanks
