Comment Arrows

When you put in a comment, the line and arrow pointing to the cell always
points to the right side of the cell. Is there a way to make it point to the
left side?

Also, if I merge several cells and then make a comment on the merged cell,
it always points to the right side of the merged cell. Any way to make the
comment point to a specific cell within that merged cell?

Bob is right this can not be done. The second part of your question:
Once you merge cells, the merge cells act as one cell.
