Andy,
I'm not sure what you mean by 'legend' bar. Are you referring to the Gantt
bar? If so, instead of comments you could use Notes for each task. These
notes can then be added to the Gantt bar.

To do this, simply 'double-click' in the Gantt area to access the Gantt
Properties dialogue box, select the Text Tab, select the location you wish
the text to appear and select Notes from the drop-down list. When you select
OK, any task with notes will display those notes on the Gantt.

hope this helps.

Hi Richard, I understand what you are saying but thats not what i am trying
to do.
under File - properties - there is a selection of project data that you can
add and show this on your plan using the headers/footers tab. (eg using the
appropriate &[subject] etc) and this stuff can go in the borders of the plan.

If I add comments in the properties comment box and then go to page set up
and select the legend tab, the "general" drop down list does not include
comments -
this is where i am stuck as to how to add the detail - hope this is better
defined

Andy,

Sort of lame, but . . . File --> Properties and highlight the value and
copy. Then File --> Page Setup and select either the footer tab or the
legend tab choose Left, center or right and then paste the data from the
clipboard. On the Legend tab, you can change the default 2" width to a wider
size to fit more text and if you eliminate unneeded bar formats to clean up
the bar legend area you get more space to work with as well as a cleaner
page. Someone with VBA programming experience might have a more elegant
solution but this works.

Hello Andy,

Pardon me for bumping in. Information you add to the comments section
in the properties dialog box can be shown by displaying the [Notes]
field in either the header or footer. If you use the Project fields
drop down list in the Page Setup dialog box, you will see the field.
Text added to the comments section also show in the Project Summary
task note field.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Julie, you are a star - can i marry you - i have been using the &[comments]
being sort of logical as this follows and works for the other titles - it
never occurred to me to use the word "notes"!!

You're most welcome Andy. Thanks for the marriage offer but sorry, I
answered my husband's question quite a long time ago :)
