Commercial Printing Excel charts

Manxie

Hi
I am new to Publisher having previously used QuarkXpress with which my
commercial printers have experienced difficulty getting Excel charts to print
property (they appear as low resolution??).
The charts have been copied and pasted into QXpress as pictures (advanced
metafiles) and .eps files provided to the printer.
Will Excel charts included in Publisher as above experience the same problem?
If so, how do I get around this??
I have had a search of the site but can find no reference to this problem.
Any help would be great.

You will have the same problem if you follow the same technique. Just sending
a copy of the publication file is _not_ sufficient, even if you used the
'Save Page as EPS' command in Quark.

The problem is that most text based apps store only a low res version of the
images they contain and establish a link to the source. This is to avoid
unnecessary file size and slow performance because monitors cannot display
full res images anyway. If (copies of) the original images are not available
at press time the low res data is all the file has to send to the press.
Hence the images are rendered less than optimum. Had you used QX's
File>Collect for Output feature you would most likely have gotten better
results.

In Publisher, make sure to use File>Pack and Go>Take to a Commercial
Printing Service command and that you choose to Include Linked Graphics and
Create Links for Embedded Graphics. Also, for quality output the preferred
graphic file formats are TIFF & EPS.
