Common Bug - black lines around inserted image after saving. solut

M

Mikey :)

Hi,

Im running word 2007 on windows 7 ultimate.

When an image is inserted into a document and is larger than the current
page it is automatically reduced in size to fit the page. Save the document,
close it, reopen it and there will
be unwanted black lines on the top and left hand edge of the image (like a
black border on those sides). I think it is the auto resizing that causes it.

If you search google there are a bunch of people with the same problem
although i didnt find anyone identify it as due to the auto resizing.
e.g
http://msgroups.net/microsoft.publi...-border-appear-on-2-sides-of-inserted-picture
http://www.msofficeforums.com/word/2946-line-appearing-over-left-top-image-when-saving.htm
http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/35560522/mysterious-border-around.aspx

Does anyone know how to stop this bug? it appears to be pretty common yet i
cant find a solution on google.

I am trying to find the option to stop word from automatically reducing the
size of an inserted image that is too big for the page... does anyone know
how i can turn off this feature??

thanks

Hi again

I found a 'work around'. If I crop the image slightly, within Word, the
lines on the top and left of the graphic disappear - even after a save!

Also, I notice that the lines only occurred on graphics within tables. The
same graphic on a blank page (no table), did not have the lines on the top
and left.

M

Mikey :)

My lines occur on objects inserted outside tables also on a brand new blank
document.

This is a really annoying bug. I cant crop my images there is text too
close to the borders that it adds unfortunately.

Im just going to do some more testing now.

I found a solution! Save the document as .doc and not as .docX. Then you do'nt have those terrible unwanted lines after you saved the document.
If you already have the lines, re-insert the picture first before you save it as a .doc.

hope this works for everyone! And spread the word, apparantly many people have that problem

This is an annoying, unresolved bug of Word 07. Shame on you Microsoft.

I've managed to figure out that images become messed up whenever Word rescales them (i.e. too high resolution/size) while saving the document for the first time after importing the images. For some reason the borders appear in the process.

There is an easy workaround to fix it:
1. change the extension of your file from .docx to.zip
2. open the .zip file and go to \word\media subfolder
3. find and replace the messed up images
4. change the file extension back to .docx

Fixed images will stay fine, even if you keep resaving the file. But it's still just a workaround and can be tedious with many images.

In order to keep doc files to a minimum size, I always edit graphics to size
and resolution in an external graphics editor before Inserting them into
Word. My favourite graphics engine is IrfanView: it is a quick free download
and is very lightweight using few resources. It supports conversion between
over 100 formats too. Word is a word processor that tries to do too much
because customers demand it. Once, a Word processor, Desktop Publisher and
Graphics editor were clearly defined applications: that has now blurred with
application trying to do too much just so so.

document.

This is a really annoying bug. I cant crop my images there is text too
close to the borders that it adds unfortunately.

Im just going to do some more testing now.

I found a solution!
I found a solution! Save the document as .doc and not as .docX. Then you
do'nt have those terrible unwanted lines after you saved the document.
If you already have the lines, re-insert the picture first before you save
it as a .doc.

hope this works for everyone! And spread the word, apparantly many people
have that problem

black lines around inserted image: workaround
This is an annoying, unresolved bug of Word 07. Shame on you Microsoft.

I've managed to figure out that images become messed up whenever Word
rescales them (i.e. too high resolution/size) while saving the document
for the first time after importing the images. For some reason the borders
appear in the process.

There is an easy workaround to fix it:
1. change the extension of your file from .docx to.zip
2. open the .zip file and go to \word\media subfolder
3. find and replace the messed up images
4. change the file extension back to .docx

Fixed images will stay fine, even if you keep resaving the file. But it's
still just a workaround and can be tedious with many images.

I HAVE A SOLUTION!!!!!! at least for me.

Click the jpg and then select the TEXT WRAPPING icon in the tool bar (FORMAT menu) and select "through". For me, the line went away!
