Comp. stops responding Word-Publisher documents

When we have Word 2000 and Publisher 2000 open and pull
graphics from Publisher to the Word document the computer
stops responding. The computers also stop responding when
you try to print the Word document if Publisher is still
open. Any ideas? Thanks.
