Compact and Repair ACCESS file on a network drive

REcently when i tried to compact and repair my database that resides on the
server. I lost my connection and several other users had problems two. THe
problem resolved when i logged off and logged back in. I encountered this
problem twice. Can anyone have an idea why this might have happened

I think that generally one should not compact a database over a network
connection. Network connections are flaky and it can easily go wrong and you
can end up corruption the database. You should move the db to a local drive
before compacting.
