Compact on close

Steve

I have an access 2000 database that sifts a lot of data and balloons in size
from a nice, compacted 35MB as high as 325MB. I believe Access 2000 has a
compact on close option, so I could easily schedule Access to open at
midnight and close right away to deploy the compact on close.

One question - none of the users actually open this database directly. They
get its information from a front end program that is linked to the database
I want to compact.

How does the compact on close function interact with that? If my users open
the front end that is just linked to it, it will not compact on close of the
front end right?

thanks

You could do that; however, If you set the Compact On Close option
(Tools->Options->General Tab), The Back End database will close when the last
user closes his Front End. I use this method is some applications I have
running.
