Compact pst not working!

Outlook 2000, Exchange 2003, emails being stored locally in pst.
Pst was getting close to 2G limit, I archived nearly 600MB of stuff &
deleted.
Pst file still remains at nearly 2g & compact now doesn't do anything.
Why is this not working?

You might have to compact more than once to get the file size to go down

I have tried, several times.
The progress bar clears the screen almost immediately.
I have upgraded to Outlook 2003, as I had planned to do, since we now have
an Exchange server.
I had hoped that with Outlook 2003 being able to handle larger pst files, it
would open fine, but it doesn't.
Any suggestions on repairing?

OL2003 can handle larger PSTs but they have to be in the new format, the old
format is limited to 2GB. You'd have to create a new empty one then
drag/drop the items from the old one into it

You can try Stellar Compact PST File software which will reduce your 2GB PST file to a considerable limit. The software scans entire Outlook data file and compacts PST file items like emails, contacts, notes, attachments etc & hence saves them from corruption by reducing their size & thereby reducing the whole pst file size.
