Compact & Repair Error

Access 2k, Win 2k. I just got a new machine. Lucky me.
I now get the following error when I try to perform
maintenance on ANY of my .mdb files.

'Could not use 'myFild.mdb'; file already in use.'

I can see it happening on one file, but ALL of them? I'm
at a loss, so please post if you want to take a shot at
what this might be. Thanks.

Update: I copied my .MDB from the network onto my local
C:\ drive and was able to do the 'compact / repair', so
problem solved. I'd still like to hear if anyone has an
explanation. Thx.

I have seen that happen also when working with a file on a
network server -- not all of the time, but never when the
file is local. My guess is maybe it has something to do
with the latency of the network connection.
