Compacting Question

I get an error when compacting any Access database templates, or apps I have
created. I use Access 2000 with XP Pro. "Microsoft Access can't delete
C:\Documents and Settings\...\Desktop\Euipment Tag.mdb after compacting it.
The compacted database has been named C:\Documents and
settings\...\Desktop\db1.mdb" Its saying I have the database set to read
only? so it can't delete the original. I have pulled up the properties on all
these apps and NONE are set to read only.. And by the way they all compile
with no problems. Has something changed in the references? Stumped. I have
been experimating with trial barcoding software..wasp and alike.

Make sure that you, and any other users have full permissions on the folder
that the database resides in. If you don't then Access can't do what it
needs to do.

I did check to see if the permissions have changed and they have not. As I
stated it doesn't matter where the database comes from ie, Microsoft
templates or samples from MVP's sites or my own...I never have had this
happen before. It can't seem to delete the orginal.

Hey Bob,

Thanks for your responce, I unloaded some trial barcoding software and it
seems to have done the trick. I suspect it may have been a plugin or Active X
that was giving me trouble. What ever it was is gone now. Everything compacts
and repairs like normal.

I have that same problem on several PCs that have installed MS-Windows XP
(SP3) with MS-Access 2002 (SP3).

The error occurs intermittently with many different MS-Access database
files, and also on multiple different computers running MS-Windows XP (SP3)
and MS-Access 2002 (SP3).
However, it occurs less frequently when the database.mdb file is copied to:
C:\Documents and settings\UserName\Local Settings\temp\
When copied to that folder, the frequency of the error is less, but still
occurs.
I have not been able to reproduce the error on a PC with Windows XP (SP2).
Also, this problem seemed to appear after installing MS-Windows XP SP3 on
the computers that are experiencing the problem.
