compaQ armada will not accept Office 2K pro

I currently have windows 95 on the laptop, I tried
installing Office 2000 pro but got a message after
inputing all the numbers that the installer terminated
prematurely. I tried four more times but no luck. Anyone
know what's up? Laptor works fine but I wanted to upgrade
software.
