compaq will not accept Office 2Kpro

I have a compaq armada laptop it has win95 installed. I
tried to upgrade software to office 2000 pro and I got an
error message "installer terminated prematurely" I tried
it four more times but it did not work, any thoughts.
everything is working fine otherwise.
