compare 2 columns

I am sure that this is simple, but I can't get it.

I have 2 columns

I would like to compare the items from col 1 to col 2

If an item from col 1 is anywhere in col 2 I would like
some type of designation to appear in col 3, beside the
matching number in of col 2

Ideas?
