compare cells to a value of one cell

I'm trying to compare values in a column of cells to the
value of one cell and if the comparison is true, then I
want to select the cell number with in the column being
compared.

Does anyone know how to wirte a function to perform this
taks?

Hi Al

Excel has a function built into it for this. It's called Match. The help
file is pretty good, but please repost if you have any problems.

You may also find the Vlookup function very helpful.

If you have any probs with this, perhaps you could give a bit more detail
about what you want to achieve, please.
