Hi,
I'm trying to compare two documents in Word 2000 - comparing the old version
to the new version.
After the comparison is completed, the markup appears correct for about 4
pages, and then, at a point where a paragraph had been inserted in the newer
version, it no longer works correctly. The entire 40 pages after this point
are marked as new insertions, even though 90% is exactly the same as the
original document.
And comparing the other way round (new version into old) works fine
(although it is useless for our purposes as the tracking is too confusing to
follow this way around). Converting the old version to text before the
comparison also works, but is not useful for our purposes as it changes the
formatting too radically.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what would cause this to happen? Maybe
I'll be able to avoid it in the future.
PS. the paragraph that seems to cause the problem is Normal style with no
numbering. I was also careful to make sure all track changes were removed
from both document before comparing.
Thanks very much folks,
Cheers,
Caroline
