The sheets being compared side by side can be in the same workbook. Choose New Window from the
Window menu. This will open a second window just like the first. One is names Book.xls:1, the
other Book.xls:2. Now you can switch one window the the other sheet, compare sheets, then close
one window (use the X in the top right corner, because File-Close will close all windows for the
active workbook).
This is also the answer to a FAQ: "Why do my windows have :1 and :2 after the file name?"
