Comparing multiple instances of contacts

Does anyone else have this difficulty?
In order to group various contacts together within a single "theme" -- ie. gardening friends, DGA members, etc., I created different contact folders -- keeping another "instance" of their contact information. It makes it a hassle when I'm updating someone's information because when I search for the person's name, as many as 5 references in different contact folders come up. I'm not always perfect about updating them all and therefore have some conflicting information.
How can I bring up all duplicates and update them simultaneously?
(Another sideline problem -- when they come up as Doe, Jane in the Find All box -- they aren't associated with any particular contact folder -- just the name CONTACT -- not the name I gave it like "CONTACT-COMMUNITY GARDENERS"
Any help out there?
Please e-mail me directly as I don't know if this list will send it on to me and I don't know whether I'll find my way back......

You may want to consider using Categories for grouping your contacts, rather
than putting duplicates into other contacts folders -- that way you will
have only one contact entry for each person, yet you can separate them by
category whenever you need to. If you assign more than one category to a
particular contact, then group the view of the Contacts folder by category,
each contact will appear in each category group it belongs to -- but there
will still be just one entry for the contact in the folder, and if you do a
Find, you won't get duplicates.
