Comparing two separate Word docs.

I've struggled with this over the years. The built-in
comparison feature (proposed by Suzanne Barnhill when she
recommended Tools | Compare and Merge Documents...) works
well if the documents do not have too much complicated
formatting. If the documents are long and have any complex
formatting, I've found that it works best to save the
files as .txt files and then do the comparison with Word
95. It sounds bizarre, but in my experience, later
versions of Word (like Word 2000) can fail to mark
revisions correctly, often marking out large sections of
text as deleted and then repeating the same sections as
new. If you run into that problem, at least you now know
one way to fix it.
