Comparing values using VLookup

Hi
This is my first posting and I think that this is the group that I
need to be asking...if there is a more useful one, I'd appreciate it
if you could let me know.
The problem that I have is that I'm working on a spreadsheet for my
AVCE exam homework at school and I have come across a problem that I
need assistance with (my IT teacher has said that I need to research
the answer which I why my dad has suggested trying the newsgroups!)
I have built a spreadsheet which records scores at a sports day event.
I have been able to use a combination of VLOOKUP and LARGE functions
to record which teams come first, second, third, etc. However I have a
problem if two teams get the same score. Is there a way of using a
function so that if this happens, they are shown as, for example,
second equal then the next place is shown as fourth place?
I know that I could copy the information using a macro and then sort
it into order, but I wondered if there was another way?

solve the problem with a macro but i am going to have a look at it
