Compatibility between Mac excel 2008 and office excel 2002

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) I have a 10,000 line spreadsheet created in excel 2002. I've opened it in mac excel 2008. I can see all of the data fine, but Good Lord is it slow to move between lines of data. I'm talking it takes about 5 seconds to move between rows. And the beach ball of doom appears every 10 seconds or so (then disappears). I simply cannot move around this data with any ease.

I did a compatibility check and ignored some issues with dates potentially not being properly formatted.

The document isn't complicated - essentially rows of dates, and contact names/information.

How can I make this spreadsheet work within mac excel.

Thanks

First of all, make sure you have Office (12.2.3) & OS X (10.6.2) fully
updated. Performance issues have been improved greatly since the
introduction of 2008. As I replied to another user just yesterday, here are
a few other considerations that appear to contribute to such
performance issues;

1- Working in Print Layout View. Use Normal View instead.

2- HP printers. If you have an HP set your default printer to something
else -- even though you don't physically have it.

3- Make sure disk permissions are repaired using Disk Utility or something
similar.

4- Confirm that any Font issues have been addressed. Launch Font Book & run
both the Resolve Duplicates as well as the Validate Fonts routines.

You may also pick up other pointers if you review some of the similar topics
in the Forum.

Thanks....I did/checked every single thing on your listing and am still having the same problem.

Do you know what is driving the issue and what other options I might have?

thanks for the help.
