Compatibility different Office versions

I have some questions regarding this.

- How do I have to personalize Office components
(particularly Word and Excel) in the different versions so
that documents remains unchangeable when switching from
one version to another.
- The viewers allow me to use macros?
- Changes in Office model object that can affect the
functionality of the macros.

Does anybody knows where can I get info of these issues?

Have you tried http://support.microsoft.com and query the Knowledge Base
Library?
