Compatibility Issue with Word

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Okay,

I click on save as to save my document in a word 97-2004 format on my Mac. Before I save it, I do this compatibility report. It says one issue is
found. That is "Word 6.0/95 compatibility options are set which may cause lines to break differently then the author intended. To ensure this document looks the same on computers running Word 97 or later change the compatibility options to Microsoft Word 2000-2004 and X in the preferences dialog box."

The funny thing is when I went to do that it was already set to that option. In addition, I did not have anything set to Word 6.0/95 so this compatibility issue should not even be coming up. Can somebody please help me fix this? I need to send something out very soon and it needs to be in the correct format. Otherwise, I may have return this product or sell it on ebay.

eBay is looking like a good option ... :)

There is a bug with the Compatibility Warning. Basically, you will see it
every time you set the file format to .doc instead of .docx. Just ignore
it!

The wording of the warning does not really make sense. The true effect of
back-grading to .doc is that some of the new features Word 2008 is capable
of can not be stored in a .doc. Word will down-grade those features. Most
of them are "pictures" so they will be downgraded to graphics, which can not
then be edited in previous versions of Word.

As for worrying about line breaks, that's a piece of sophistry. If you have
formatted your document correctly, the lines should wrap correctly in any
version of Word. If your document is not correctly formatted, it can
potentially collapse like a house of cards when you send it to any other
user on any version of Word.

Basically, if you use only styles, and the paragraph properties in those
styles, to manage your layout, you will have no problems. Your document
will display and print perfectly on any computer in any version of Word or
its competitors.

Things to avoid are spaces, floating objects, blank paragraphs, and hard
page breaks.

Hope this helps
