Compatibility issue

Is Microsoft version X compatible with the MacBook intel? Ever since
I installed Microsoft version X on my macbook I have been having
problems with microsoft word crashing everytime I try to open a word
document from my desktop. Since I downloaded a trial version of
Endnotes, the problem has been getting worse (i.e. it always crashes
when I try to open a document from the desktop as opposed to some of
the time before). The other programs (excel, powerpoint) are not
giving me any problems. I downloaded the latest update of Microsoft
version X onto my computer today and it still didn't fix the problem.
Any suggestions?

Yep, MS Office X is supposed to run fine with Intel Mac.

Consistent and reproducible problems in Word usually respond to one of
the standard troubleshooting measures, which you will find listed here:

http://word.mvps.org/Mac/TroubleshootingIndex.html

Work through them one by one until something helps. If nothing does,
post back. The most common culprit is a corrupted Normal template or
damaged Preferences file--but, you might try removing the EndNote Add-in
first, as EndNote has been linked to various issues in past versions.

Indeed....
If you need to wirk with the EndNote add-in, I would suggest viewing the
document in "Normal" mode and disabling "Track changes".
