Compatibility Issues with WIndows ME

I am trying to open an excell documet that was created in Excel 98 for
Mac on a machine running Windows ME over our network. If I copy the
file from the Mac to the PC over the network, it opens fine, but since
multiple people use this file, I need to be able to open it remotely
(I don't want people to overwrite eachother's changes).

Although we can open this file from a Mac if we leave it on a PC
without any problems, we need to do the reverse (keep the file on a
Mac and open it from a PC). Unfortunately we get an error message
every time we open it on a PC. The error message lists the directory
path and says the file cannot be found (although we can see it right
there in the file browser, and we can copy it to the desktop of the PC
if we want to).

We've tried this on two different PCs with the same results. Both PCs
are running PC MACLAN (an AppleTalk converter). Our Macs are running
OS 9.2.

I'd use something other than ME. That was the shittiest Windows that
Microsoft ever made.

Try adding ".xls" to the end of Excel file-names and ".doc" to the end of
Word file-names when making them in Excel 98 and Word 98 (or afterwards).
Does that help? It may just be that Windows can't see the Mac-format file
system.
