compatibility of Word 2002 and Outlook 2003

I have MS Office XP Professional version 2002 and Outlook 2003. When I try to
create a letter from an Outlook contact using Word, I get a message stating,
"To use this feature, you must install the version of Microsoft Word that
matches the installed version of Microsoft Outlook." Since MS Office XP
Professional version 2002 includes Outlook, why doesn't my version of Word
match my version of Outlook?

You can only have ONE version of Outlook installed at any one time. Since
you have installed Outlook 2003, then that has replaced Outlook 2002.

And adding to Gordon's reply ,if you are using Outlook 2003 then you need Word 2003
.. Word from Office XP will not work with Office 2003

Outlook and Office versions must match for the automation features to work,
like mail merge, send to from any Office program, New letter to Contact,
etc.
