Go to Word>Preferences>Compatibility and check what you have set there.
Make sure you have not set your default save format for new documents to
something old, like Word 6/95.
Any document originally created in Word 6 or Word 95 (the "old" .doc format)
will have those compatibility options set by default when you open it, to
preserve the layout as it originally was.
If you correct the options and save the file, the correction will stick.
It's on a "per document" basis.
Word persists the compatibility options as they were in the file format a
document was created in. In most cases, you should heed the compatibility
warning and reset the options to the latest format. When you do, things are
likely to move around a little in the document, so do not do this an hour
before your deadline
Cheers
Every document I work on - new, old, everything - offers the compatibility
warning that Word 6.0/95 Compatibility Options are set. I save documents in
2000-2004 and X format (.doc) and no matter what I set in the Prefs (according
to the advice in the Compatibility palette) it never changes.
How can I address this situation? Other than Ignoring it, that is.
