Compatibility pack not working for Excel

Jie Wang [MSFT]

Hello Dave,

I'm not sure what exactly happened when you say "But Excel cannot open xlsx
files". Is Excel hang? Crash? Saying Unable to recognize the file format?
Or just nothing happened?

And how did you try to open the file? Double clicking in the Explorer? Or
use the File -> Open menu in Excel?

Please let me know more detailed information on the error you're getting so
we can narrow down the problem.

Besides, you may also want to try these first:
1. Install All Office Updates via Microsoft Update (the control panel item
in Vista and http://update.microsoft.com in XP).
2. Install Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack Service Pack 1 (SP1) from:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=9A1822C5-49C6-47BD-
8BEC-0D68693CA564&displaylang=en

Please let me know how's going.

Thanks,

Jie Wang ([email protected], remove 'online.')
