Compatibility pack

I received an attachment to an e-mail that had a .docx extension.

When trying to open it, I got this message:

"This file was created by a newer version of MS Word. Do you want to
download a compatiblity pack so that you can work with this file?"

I have Office 2003 (WinXP). Would this change my version of Word/Office?
Before saying OK, I just need to know more about what a compatibility pack
is, and what it does. Thanks.

That will allow you to open Office 2007 documents (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx) It's
a good thing. ;-)

Thanks for the quick reply. So it won't change anything about my 2003
version, just allow me to open those?

That's it. It just adds to your current version's functions.

In addition to what JoAnn said, it will also give you all the fonts that are
included in Office 2007....

Thanks, I did download it and was then able to view the .docx attachment.
I saved it as a .doc in case I needed to send it on to someone else.

Thanks for this additional info. It gave me a smile though, because
occasionally I get a 'message' from my computer that I have too many fonts
already! <S>
