Why does a word document(docx) created using mac Word 2008 fail to open correctly in Windows word 2003? Is it merely a problem of fundamental incompatibility or that the file was not saved in the right format?

Hi Leiza,

Has the Office 2007 compatability pack been installed on the PC with Word 2003? If not, it'll need to be installed or Word 2008 will
have to save the document in the Word 97-2003 file format (.doc).

No: It is likely because the Windows user has not applied Office 2003
Service Pack 2, which contained the converter they need.

They probably also tried to open it by double-clicking out of their email.
Most corporate email systems will prevent that because of the risk of
viruses. She then needs to yell at her IT department to "make it work".
They will :)

Cheers
