Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

When I try to save a word document in compatibility mode, I get the message that I have one compatibility issue: "Word 6.0/95 options are set" When I go into my word preferences, it is set correctly to "Word 2000 - 2004 and x" When I send the documents as e mail attachments to PC users, it gets screened as containing a virus (using Norton Anti Virus), and the documents appear as .dat documents.

What is .dat? Does anyone know why I am getting this compatibility message when my preference settings seem to be correct?

Thanks, HK

The Compatibility message is a flub in Office 2008 which is misleading & has
no bearing on the issue you're having. That's a matter of the recipient's
email server not being properly configured. In order to minimize the problem
the following is readily available from other posts on the subject:

===============================================
A widely discussed topic but not really a Word issue:

Three key ingredients:

Always use filename extensions
Zip any attachments
Make certain that your email software uses the correct encoding

If you need it, more detail is available on this widely discussed topic if
you search for it :)

It's also possible that the Windows users do not have the [free] OXML
Converters installed. These are necessary to open the Office 2008 native
files if they're using a version of Office prior to 2007.
