Compatibility problems with new word versions

I am working as a translator with the 2004 Mac:Word version 11.2
(050714). Now I can´t read MS-Word files that come in via mail from
one of my customers. The MS-Word files appear as "Winmail.dat" files
which my eMac can´t read. I have downloaded the latest Mac:Word
updates.
Was the Mac after all not a could choice for a translator who is
dependent on MS-compatibility?

You are likely receiving a winmail.dat file because of the sender's Outlook
settings. They are sending as Rich Text. Have them change their formatting
to be html or better yet, plain text. They may be using Outlook 2002, as
2003 by default sends as Rich Text within the exchange network and html
outside it.

If you can't get them to change, take heart, there is a work around. You
can download a utility at the following website
http://www.freemacware.com/tnefs-enough/ that will help. It allows you to
download the attachment and "fix it".

Good luck,
