compatibility settings

Running a compatibility check on a document for compatibility with
Word 2002 XP for Windows returns one warning: "Word 6.0/95
compatibility options are set."

Following the instructions in the dialog box, I go to the
Compatibility window in the Preferences control panel, and change
"Recommended options for: Custom" to "Microsoft Word 2000-2004 and X"

No individual options are set. I click OK and run the check again with
the same result.

Returning to the control panel, I find it is again set to "Custom"

Clues as to how to fix the compatibility issue?

Hi Brad:

That's a worry. It sounds to me as though the document may be in the old
and nasty Word 6/95 and Word 97 combined RTF format that Windows Word 95
could produce.

In which case, I am surprised that the document is still with us. If that's
the case, perform a Save As and ensure you choose Word Document as the
format.

On the other hand, having changed the Compatibility Options, I believe it is
necessary to Save the document to make the change hold.

Other than that, you may have to de-corrupt that document. Save it as HTML,
re-open, and save it back as a Word Document again to do that.

Hope this helps
