I'm a beginner with Project. Trying to evaluate if Project
Professional 2007 is what my department is looking for. Software that
project timelines can be created with, and that will collaborate to adjust
the timeline information as it is edited. Also, I am on Microsoft Office
2003, can I
upgrade to Project Professional 2007 or do I have to be on
Microsoft 2007?

Thanks for the opportunity to be included

I have a similar question - I have just installed Microsoft Publisher and
have Microsoft Office 2003. I can't now send out my Newsletters etc that I
have created with Publisher- is there a plug in etc that I can get for
Outlook 2003 to make it compatible with Publisher 2007 or vice versa?

Thanks

Naomi

Let's see if I can help both of you ....

The latest version of MS Project is Project2007 Service Pack 1.
The latest version of Microsoft Office (suite) is 2007 SP1
The latest version of Microsoft Office 2003 is SP3.

If you download and install the latest updates and service packs, you should
resolve any compatibility issues between versions.

Since this group is dedicated solely to MS Project, Naomi will need to
obtain more information from the Publisher Discussion group.

Twinkling Star --- MS Project 2007 plays very well with MS Office 2003.
Just make sure you have the latest updates for each.

Regarding Project Professional vs Project Standard. The features within
them are identical. Project Professional allows integration with Microsoft
Project Server which is a very robust server based system.

If all you need is scheduling within your department, save some big money
and purchase MS Project 2007 Standard.

As an aside, if you do have (or plan for) a Microsoft Project Server
installation, then you must stick with the same versions... Project Server
2003 only talks to Project Professional 2003. Project Server 2007 only talks
to Project Professional 2007. You can't mix, it is an enterprise wide
decision.

Again, for deparmental use, Microsoft Project 2007 Standard would be a
product to seriously consider.

Welcome to the forum. You answer is yes and no. Project will create a
timeline for you. Would that it were that simple. It takes more than
just a little effort to learn to use Project to create a meaningful
timeline. (Keyword here, "meaningful"). You can't just sit down with
Project and in an hour or two create a real project timeline. It's
considerably more involved than that and requires at least a basic
understanding of Critical Path Scheduling and how it applies. If
you're willing to spend some time to learn it, you'll glean a great
deal more than a timeline. If you aren't willing to spend some time,
I'd advise you to use Excel instead.

As for your question, "Do I have to be on M$ 2007", I don't know what
that means. Do you mean M$ Project 2007? M$ Office 2007? Or M$ Windows
Vista? In any case, I don't think that any of those things are
relevant to whether or not you can create a schedule in Project.

Hope this helps in your world.

Welcome to the forum, Naomi. As to your question, this forum deals
exclusively with M$ Project, which is project scheduling software. For
questions regarding M$ Publisher, you'd have to find a forum dealing
with it. Best of luck!
