Compile Error on Word 2003 opening

I have suddenly developed a problem in that I get the error message

"Compile error in hidden module: Autoexec"

I click on OK and Word will function, but I will later get freezing of
screen or the same error message on closing of Word.

Any idea what's happening and how to cure it?

I have tried to reinstall, but made no difference.

(Is there a way of completely removing Word before a reinstall, as I think
it is leaving registry settings unchanged)
