This error is very often generated by an Addin that is loaded when Word
starts.
It could be a template addin or a ComAdd.
Be sure that in hidden files and folder are visible. Application Data is a
hidden folder.
To verify this open Windows Explorer and click on Tools -> Folder Options
-> Be sure Show Hidden file is enabled.
Check in the Word Startup folder - on Win2000 it would be in \documents and
Settings\[user name]\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\Startup.
I would also suggest looking in \Program Files\ Microsoft Office\ Office\
Startup
In both these startup folder remove any files.
If this doesn't resolve the issue, Start Word from the Run line using
Winword /a.
If Word starts then there is a comAdd installed.
This is a good troubleshooting guide
