Compiling many workbooks into one

I need to compile about 250 workbooks into one massive workbook. I need specific information in specific cells, which are in different tabs. I tried recording a macro, but I guess that macros don't work when you are working with multiple workbooks. Is there something I could do that would allow me to compile all of this automatically? Sorry if this is confusing, it's confusing the hell out of me.

Until we know what "compile all of this..." means, and what specific
information in what specific tabs goes where, we're at a loss to assist.
