The Flying PM
I suspect this question comes up a lot, and I read some threads on it, but
I'm still confused. Or not.
I have a task with one resource on it for 48 hours. In Project Pro, for this
particular resource, it shows Work of 48, Actual Work of 48, % complete 100.
On my resource's timesheet it shows Work of 48, Actual Work 36, and %
complete < 100.
So, I gather that I marked this one 100% done in the Gantt View (I know, I'm
such a naughty P.M.) of Project Pro 2003 and it updated the actuals to show
48 hrs and changed the % complete to 100.
HOWWWWWWEVER, and this is the catch, it does not (by design) change the
resource's timesheet. In order to do that I would have to publish all and
check the "overwrite actuals" check box - I think.
All of my forcing tasks to 100% happened prior to sending out the first
round of timesheets. This plan is our first to utilize Project Server and it
was uploaded to Project Server after the project had been underway for a
while. I tried to get things cleaned up, prior to asking resources to enter
time.
So what does one do when one wants to close out a task for a resource? For
instance, I know that Dr. Who has completed the recalibration of the flux
capacitor and I want to get in there, close it out, update his actuals and
have it NOT show up on his timesheet.
Sounds like this is a big no-no in Project Server. Sounds like I would
instead have to wait on the resource to pull it up and close it in his
timesheet. Assuming he is still in the same dimension of time/space as I and
my project plan are.
