% complete not changing timeline

I have a colleague that asked me a question I cannot answer. She wants to use
the %complete field to adjust the finish date and change the overall
timeline. I do not now how to answer that as I have never had to do that.
Does anyone know how that might be accomplished. Thanks

Hi

To do this you need to input data of Actua Start date, Actual duration and %
complete for an activity.

Open Gantt chart or Tracking Gantt view. Then go to View > Tables >
Tracking. You would automatically get the cols. for the above data on the
screen. When these three data are given for any activity automatically the
replanned Finish date for that activity as well as the updated Start and
Finish dates of all other connected or related activites are calculated and
updated Timeline is also shown.

I hope it helps.

Simply entering a % Complete does not adjust either the start or finish
dates nor the duration of a task, thus it won't alter the subsequent
timeline. For the timeline to change, the actual start or finish dates
and/or duration must change from what was originally scheduled. The most
reliable way to do this is to avoid entering percentages altogether and
enter the Actual Start Date, Actual Duration, and estimated Remaining
Duration while the task is in progress, setting the Remaining Duration to
zero when the task is complete.

Thanks for the replies. I will have her try your suggestions and see what
happens.
