% complete to measure progress!

In our orgnization we ask our project managers to enter % complete for
their project plans (as simple as that).

We are interested in looking at how much a project is done vs how much
should it ACTUALLY be done at present time. (e.g. if a project starts
1/1/09 and finishes 5/1/2009, currently we are in March and the
project is only done 30% where it should be done about, lets say,
60%)

Whats the best way to view this information in Project Professional
2007? ANyone else doing something simliar to this?

Also, How is Actual Duration Calculated in MS Project 2007 for Summary
Tasks?

Hi,
You need to use the % work field as well as the % complete field. The %
work field gets updated when you add the work into the assignments view.
That way you can say I've completed 20% of the work, but in 50% of the time.
There are bound to be other ways of doing this, its would be a good idea to
read about earned value analysis within Project to get more information, as
this is basically what you are tracking.
