completed work and Rescheduling

In my baseline schedule I have a split task – call it Early Complete. The
two parts of the Early Complete task straddle the status date. The task has
finished ahead of schedule so I mark it 100% complete. I then “Reschedule
uncompleted work†and the uncompleted tasks split and move up to my status
date as expected. Here is the part I’m not sure how to fix: the uncompleted
tasks are being split around the second half of the Early Complete task.
When I look at the Resource Usage table hours are being allocated to work on
the second half of Early Complete even though Remaining Work is 0. In this
particular case I can reduce the Work so the entire task falls behind my
status date. But for tasks that are completely in the future this technique
would mean setting their Work to zero. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Rick

Thanks Trevor. If a task is completed ahead of schedule should I mark it
100% complete or should I mark it what ever % brings it up to the status
date? If I don't mark it 100% complete then when I reschedule the remaining
work Project allocated resources to do work that doesn't exit.

Try instead using the Tracking Toolbar tp Update As Scheduled, which will
declare progress up to the Status Date, and then Remaining Duration=0.

When I did this it marked my task 40% complete Project set the Remaining
Duration to 3 days, not 0 like I was hoping. Changing Remaining Duration (or
Remaining Work) to 0 fixes this case.

Following the same steps above on a task with it Start date in the future of
the status date turn the task into a milestone and oddly also change the
basline task into a milestone also.

I quess I can generalize my question to "What is the best way to handle
future tasks that are completed ahead of schedule?"

Thanks again for all you help.
