Completely remove Office 2000 from Windows XP

Office 2000 Pro/Windows XP Pro SP2

My Outlook started taking 5-10 minutes to open and forcing use of Virtual
Memory. This happened very soon after a Blue Screen of Death.

I tried System Restore to go back to an earlier date. Nada.

I have uninstalled Office, tried removing as much as I could based on
KB219423 but every time I re-install Office, Outlook takes 10 minutes to
open. I can also see based on the toolbar options (Lookout and Google) that
Office was far from completely removed. Therefore I suspect that files and/or
Registry entries that caused the problem are still there.

I have trawled the web but not found any semblance of a solution to my
problem. Any advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks, David

Close Outlook. Find and rename outcmd.dat to .old. (If using Windows 2000 or XP, you will need to enable searching hidden and system folders.)

Once you have done so, reopen Outlook and it should open fine. You will need to rebuild any custom toolbars or customizations as the file outcmd.dat controls how the toolbars display. When it becomes corrupted, it will cause Outlook to hang because it cannot create the toolbars that you expect.

Thanks. I'll try that.

However, I wish to add that spell check stopped working in Outlook, while it
does in Word. With Outlook I sometimes get the message: System translation
error or similar.

I have now removed outcmd.bat. I did some Registry cleaning and then
re-installed for the tenth time. Thank God so far all is well.

Many thanks for taking the time to help.
