Completing a call

Once I complete a call that is scheduled on my calendar, is there a way to
immediately record a record of the call and create a follow-up and include
this in the contact's history? Should the call be scheduled as a task
instead of at a particular time on a calendar? Is there a really good
tutorial that takes you through this entire process?
