Complicated Page Numbering

T

Tara

I am attempting to number pages in about a 100 page
document. Unfortunately, the page numbering isn't
consecutive.

For example, the first 4 pages of the document should not
have a page number, then the next 5 pages should be
numbered 1-5. Then, the next 3 pages should not have a
page number, and then the next 3 pages should continue
with numbering where the other one left off (6-8).

I can't figure out for the life of me how to do this--any
thoughts?

Assuming that after this hiccup the numbers continue unbroken to the end,
you can either set section breaks and alter the numbering for the different
sections, or you can create a humungous combination of fields in the
header/footer that will place the required page number throughout the
document.

That would be:
{IF{Page} > 4 "{IF {Page} <10 "{={Page} - 4}" ""}" ""}{IF {Page} > 12
"{={Page} - 7}" ""}

Each pair of field boundaries is inserted with CTRL+F9

You need to insert section breaks at the end of each page BEFORE the
page numbering should change. Unlink all headers/footers (depending on
where you have your page numbers) from the previous sections, and set
the pagination to start at "6" for section 4, for instance.
