Is it possibly to compress images to reduce file size in Office 2008? I normally use Windows so I've become accustomed to using this feature.

Hi Michel,
Do you know why this feature was left out of Office:mac(Word)? It's a very
useful feature that I know many Word users rely on. Isn't there another way of
compressing pictures in Word?
Ian
Word's native graphics formats are PNG and JPEG. They won't
compress any further than they already are.
The previous function was a "Re-sampling" function.
It operated by ripping information out of the graphic.
This really annoyed people who did not want it to happen
So Microsoft has removed the function.
It's not really a function that a "word processor" should ever
have had in the first place ‹ it has nothing to do with "words".
Mr. McGhie, I must point out several errors in your assertions.
I'm oversimplifying but JPEG has a sliding scale of compression. Yes it's
lossy but most compression isn't lossless because often quality is sacrificed
on the altar of smaller file-sizes and limited bandwidth.
Let's not split hairs. All lossy compression "rips out info."
So MS decided to punish all users because of the ones who lack basic
understanding? Let the newbies have an extra warning if they need it.
Resampling images is part of Office 2007 (for PCs.) My biggest question to
you-and more importantly Microsoft-is why has MS released Office 2008 for Mac
as crippleware? The glaring omissions of key productivity features is long
(including VBA & macros.)
This is not the 1980s, sir. The new Publishing Layout means we're really
talking about word processing software that truly doubles as a Desktop
Publisher. Word has long had dozens of features that go beyond mere "word
processing."
The real point is that we don't expect to have to waste time using an outside
graphics app to shrink photos when tried and true features for shrinking
images (the biggest culprit in large document files) right inside Word worked
for years. We've paid good money for an Office suite but it seems MS isn't up
to the challenge of making their Mac software nearly as useful as the same
exact same product produced earlier for the Win OS.
