Compressing Images in PPT 2007

Greetings, all.

I created a PowerPoint 2007 presentation with a large number of large .tif
files. Once I got things cropped and placed the way I wanted, I had
PowerPoint compress them. There was no change in the file size, and the
cropped areas are still there.

Instead of posting straight-away, I did some experimenting. I inserted a
..jpg image, and PowerPoint compressed and deleted cropped areas as expected.
Then I tried a different .tif file and also got the expected results.

So, after my tests, my new question is: When is a .tif not a .tif? Or -
Why will PowerPoint compress/ crop some .tif files and not others?

Regards,
Michael

Oh, nice clue, that. I was actually going to ask you about CMYK, but I
wanted to try it for myself and haven't had time yet.

Anyway, I'm thinking that it may be by design -- CMYK images would usually
be intended for print, and as such, perhaps they're not being compressed. I
will try to at least repro it tomorrow, so we can know for sure if CMYK
images are compressed or not. (We may never know why, though.)
