Compressing/reducing

I produce a monthly club newsletter, typically eleven pages in length, and approx. 15 MB size, mostly attributed to pictures. Earlier versions of Word (PC) had a compression feature, now using an iMac and Word 2008, there is no compression. After converting my initial .doc or .docx file to a .pdf, the file size remains the same, this is puzzling. I need to reduce the file size to something around 2MBs for sending out to club members. Reducing the individual pictures, via Adobe Photo Elements doesn't change the end result that much.

Hello __________-

Those numbers just don't "compute":) I have a 60 page .docx containing
30-odd full color photographs, each of which is 4" x 2.75" & the total size
of the file is 584KB. Since you're already using Elements try the following
& see if that doesn't make a difference:

1- Change the resolution to 200 ppi - less if you aren't concerned about
print quality - you need no more for screen display than 96 ppi

2- Change the print dimensions to the approximate size needed in the final
newsletter - scaling in Word does not reduce file size & can degrade quality

3- Save as JPEG (.jpg) [rather than TIFF or some other format].
