Computed Column from Date Field

I have a table that accumulates data for each day of the year
(MM/DD/YY). I need to create a computed column based on the date which
will show only the Month and Year (MM/YY). My end result will allow me
to perform a crosstab and receive monthly totals for each year.

If there's an easier way to compute monthly totals with daily
information, feel free to enlighten me. I've done something similar
before, but it's been a very long time.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!!
