I have installed Canon LBP-660 printer to my Acer TravelMate 290 laptop. I
plugged to computer connectio into the Parallel port at the rear of the
laptop.
I believe this port is called "LPT1". Whenever I try to print anything I
receive a window which states "The port 'LPT1' is not exist!"
Am at wit's end and would welcome any advice please.
Hi Marian,
A Google search turned up the long thread that ends here:

The post by Jurgen that's mentioned is
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/1053545228, and the post by
Davide is at
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/1078218958.
The advice to download the driver from the German Canon site is
necessary because Canon USA no longer offers that driver. In the year
and a half since these messages were posted, though, Canon has
reorganized its driver download site, so here are the new
instructions:
Go to
http://de.software.canon-europe.com. Open the dropdown labeled
"Drucker (Consumer)" and choose LBP-660 from the list. This opens a
new page. Set the Betriebssystem list to "Windows" and the Sprache
list to "Englisch", and click the Los button. In the set of links
below the button, click item 2, Canon WPS Drucker Trieber v. 1.12
(1.5).
On the next screen, the large paragraph translates to:
"The following downloads are available. Depending on the product, you
may have to enter the serial number of your equipment. Please have
this ready." The small paragraph at the bottom says "Please enter the
serial number of your equipment" and has a box to enter it. I don't
have the printer or the serial number, so I couldn't go any farther.
After you enter the serial number, click the link under Trieber for
l036_enx.exe.
Once you have the driver download, Davide's contribution was that the
cable must be disconnected from the computer while you install the
driver, and then reconnected after a reboot.
Good luck!
